AI-First Software Engineering for Your Business Growth

Healthcare, e-commerce and SaaS teams rely on fifteen years of production engineering to design, build and scale software that holds up under audit.

DevTom delivers scoped engineering engagements in regulated and transaction-critical environments — clinical records, financial transactions and regulatory audit trails. Terms are fixed in advance, and every engagement concludes with full technical documentation and a formal handover.

Industry experience

Sectors we have delivered production systems in.

Fifteen years of production engineering across regulated and transaction-critical environments, working within client teams on the systems their operations depend on.

Healthcare

Clinical documentation and electronic health record systems for United States practices. Live patient data, correction rather than deletion, and attribution that must remain valid across years of audit.

E-commerce & online retail

High-traffic consumer platforms where the transaction path spans pricing, inventory and financing, and checkout failure translates directly into lost revenue.

Enterprise SaaS

Multi-tenant products with dense, data-intensive interfaces. Reporting and analytics in which figures must reconcile precisely.

Workforce & scheduling

Systems recording employee working time, where the recorded position and operational reality must not diverge.

Automotive

Web applications for retail and industry, from consumer-facing storefronts through to internal operational tooling.

Internal tools & custom software

Operational systems a business depends on day to day, engineered to be maintained by whoever inherits them.

Client names are withheld under confidentiality. Specifics can be discussed under NDA.

Why choose DevTom

Senior engineering, direct engagement, defined terms.

01

Direct engagement with the engineer delivering the work

No account management layer and no intermediary briefing. The person who scopes the engagement is the person who implements it.

02

Fifteen years in systems where data loss is unacceptable

Electronic health records, online retail and workforce management. Production systems carrying live users, financial transactions and formal audit requirements.

03

Most engagements involve code we did not write

Assuming ownership of an unfamiliar codebase is the standard case rather than the exception. We are accustomed to arriving without documentation and leaving it in place.

04

Fixed scope, fixed price, fixed date

Where requirements are well-defined, terms are fixed in advance. Where they are not, a day rate and a short discovery phase to establish them.

05

Full ownership transfers on completion

Code, documentation, infrastructure and a handover session. The engagement concludes and your team maintains the system independently.

Services

Product software development services.

01

Defined-scope development

For teams with a specified requirement and insufficient engineering capacity. We scope the work, agree a price and a delivery date, and implement it, typically over four to twelve weeks. Delivery comprises working software, documentation and a formal handover.

  • Feature development
  • API and integration work
  • Internal tools
  • Front-end builds in React or Angular
02

Assuming ownership of an existing system

Where the original developer is no longer available and institutional knowledge has been lost. We audit the codebase, document its current state, resolve urgent defects, and restore it to a condition in which changes can be made safely.

  • Codebase audit
  • Documentation
  • Dependency and security updates
  • Stabilisation before new features
03

Infrastructure and DevOps

Deployment infrastructure that does not depend on a single machine or individual. We establish pipelines, environments, monitoring and backup procedures so that releases become routine and failures are identified internally before they reach customers.

  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Cloud infrastructure on AWS or Vercel
  • Containerisation
  • Monitoring and alerting
04

Ongoing maintenance

A fixed monthly allocation of hours for defect resolution, updates and minor changes. The application remains supported and a qualified engineer remains available.

  • Monthly retainer
  • Agreed response times
  • No minimum term

Specialty

AI in systems where actions cannot be reversed.

Most AI automation operates in contexts where an incorrect output is an inconvenience: an inaccurate CRM field, a poorly worded email. Other systems do not permit that tolerance. Where an agent can write to a clinical record, initiate a payment or amend a compliance log, the governing question is no longer what the system is capable of, but what it is permitted to do without human authorisation.

That is the work we undertake: AI and agent workflows in systems where actions are irreversible and every change must remain attributable.

We build on provider APIs and, where compliance requires self-hosted models, deploy into your own cloud environment under your existing controls.

  • 01Agent workflows with explicit human approval gates
  • 02Retrieval over private or regulated data
  • 03Evaluation — establishing whether output is correct rather than merely plausible
  • 04Integration into existing systems rather than replacing them

How it works

How an engagement proceeds.

  1. 01

    Initial call

Your requirement, the constraints you are operating under, and whether the engagement is a fit. No charge.

  2. 02

    Written scope

What will be built, what is excluded, the cost and the delivery date. Fixed price where requirements are well-defined; day rate where they are not yet established.

  3. 03

    Delivery

Scheduled progress reviews with working software available for inspection throughout, rather than a single delivery at the end.

  4. 04

    Handover

Documentation and a walkthrough session. Ownership of the code transfers to you and your team maintains it independently.

Who we work with

The clients we work with most often.

Software agencies

Agencies requiring additional delivery capacity, or expertise in a stack their current team does not cover.

Companies without in-house engineering

Organisations operating a production application with no internal engineer responsible for maintaining it.

Regulated and data-sensitive teams

Teams delivering into environments where prior experience of the compliance constraints is a requirement rather than a preference.

Contact

Tell us about your project.

An initial call to establish your requirement and whether the engagement is a fit. No charge and no obligation.

By submitting this form you consent to your message being stored and used to respond to your enquiry. It will not be added to a mailing list or shared with third parties. See our privacy policy.

What happens next

  1. 1

    Direct receipt

Your enquiry goes directly to the engineer who would carry out the work, rather than to a routing queue or a business development team.

  2. 2

    Response within one business day

A direct answer, a clarifying question, or a clear indication that the engagement is not a fit. We decline promptly rather than extending an enquiry unnecessarily.

  3. 3

    Mutual NDA on request

Executed within one to two business days, before any sensitive material is exchanged. Select the option on the form and one will be issued first.

  4. 4

Initial call, followed by a written scope

Deliverables, exclusions, cost and delivery date, typically issued within one week of the call. Fixed price where requirements are well-defined.
